Pt England Cross Country
Last week was Pt England's cross country race. Here is Damien's recount.
Yesterday PES had cross country. I was in Te Arawa. We are the red team.
The first kids that had a race was year 1. They were 5 years old. Then after that was the next year group.
Finally it was the year six’s. At the start we did a sprint and got tired. When I was running I was coming first but then I slowed down. I caught up to Taiaha and we had an race to the end.
The person that came first out of the year six’s was Aidan.Oloti came second.
Then when we finished cross country we went back to class to put up the chairs. Then the bell rang and we went home.

Cyber Smart Explanation
This week Class 7 Literacy have been writing an explanation about Mr Burt's 'Use my brain, Use my heart, I'm going to be Cybersmart' korero. Here is Lorenzo's explanation.
Use my brain, Use my heart, I'm going to be Cybersmart !
Use my brain, use my heart, I'm going to be cyber smart is a korero. It is to help people that are being dodgy during learning time and doing the wrong thing like playing music when your not suppose too.
Use my brain means think twice about what you’re doing, what is going to happen and make your decision if you want to do the wrong thing or the right thing. Use your brain like it is something that you can control.
Use my heart means that if you're doing a bad thing and feeling like someone is looking at you, and is going to tell on someone. Using my heart is using the way you feel in the right direction instead of the wrong direction.
Being cyber smart means that you think about the footprint that you’re leaving behind. For example when you go to play an online game, you do not put down other people playing otherwise you might get reported, for putting down other players.
How this korero can help you, is that it helps you stop going the wrong way instead of the right way, which means listen to your brain, listen to your feelings and leave a smart footprint. Go the right way instead of the wrong way!

Mutton Birding
This week the Kauri have been reading a book about Muttonbirding. They did some research to find out how you get mutton birding rights and then predicted what would happen overtime with mutton birding. Here is Lorenzo's post.
In reading my reading group have been reading a book called on the island. it is about a family going mutton birding and only Maori people can hunt them you can stay for two months but you are only aloud to hunt five mutton birds.
For our reading activity we had to do what its like in 200 years in the past present and the future and imagine what we had to use.

Commonwealth Games Report
This week we have been writing reports about a commonwealth report. We had to make sure that each paragraph had a new idea. Here is TJ's post.
Super rugby sevens
What is Super rugby sevens?
Rugby sevens, also known as seven-a-side, Sevens or VIIs, is a variant of rugby union which teams are made up of seven players, instead of the usual 15, with shorter matches.
What a equipment do you need?
With a full time staff of Team Sales representatives, we have the experience and expertise to make sure you have all the rugby gear you need, when you need it, in a timely and professional manner.
How do you play?
Rugby sevens or Seven-a-side rugby as it used to be called or 7s rugby or rugby 7s !!! has become very popular over the years.
The game of Sevens is played in festival-like, knock-out type, fun-filled competitions rather than home and away fixtures like normal rugby.
How many sevens go on the field?
Only 7 go on to the field and 7 is on the side line.

World War Commemoration
Last week we had an assembly to commemorate World War One. The students wrote about the assembly and did some research about the World Wars. Here is Lorenzo's piece.
We usually don’t have assembly on Mondays but today is a special. On August the 4th 1914, that was when the World War 1 started, 100 years ago. The world war 1 has many people and countries in war. To remember the people that died in the war we should say lest we forget.
20 billion people were wounded (means that they were injured or hurt) and there were 16 million deaths, 10 million military people died and 7 million civilians.
9 of every 10 soldiers that survived the World War 1 were injured but they came back home to their loved ones.

My Titanic Explanation.
Why the Titanic sunk! Have you ever heard about the Unsinkable Ship before?
BANG!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Titanic also known as the Unsinkable Ship crashed into a massive iceberg and scraped along the side of it. This was the Luxury liners first voyage but also it’s last. A big disaster with many lives lost.
Everyone thought that the Titanic would never sink because the owners said it was the safest ship in the world. When it hit the iceberg it made big holes in the side of the ship. The bulkheads started to fill with water and the Titanic slowly began to sink.
When the Titanic started sinking the front of the ship was the first to get covered with water. It dragged the stern of the ship down but the pressure was too big and it snapped off. The stern of the Titanic bobbed up and down for a while before submerging into the icy water.
Some good things to think about the titanic. There should've been more lifeboats so all the people on the ship could survive. The captain should’ve listened to the warnings and prepared everyone earlier.
